Curatorial Practice
Viveka Biondic
Curating is an integral part of Viveka Biondic’s artistic practice and functions as an extension of her conceptual and organizational approach to exhibitions. She curates her own exhibitions, shaping not only the presentation of the works but also the spatial, thematic, and discursive framework in which they are experienced. Beyond her individual projects, she served as curator of the international group exhibition Arte México – Austria: Un Diálogo Entre Culturas at the Museo Estatal de Arte Popular de Oaxaca (MEAPO), where she contributed to the development of the exhibition concept and the dialogue between artists from Mexico and Austria.
Her curatorial work frequently extends beyond static exhibition formats to include live programming such as concerts and performances. For the exhibition Der Stand des Weibes ist Ruhe, she curated a concert specifically developed for the opening in collaboration with the musicians portrayed in the exhibition, creating a direct dialogue between visual representation and live performance. The finissage was conceived as a performative event featuring a circus acrobat, further expanding the exhibition into a physical and temporal experience.
Starting this year, Biondic is also curating exhibitions on a regular basis at Galerie Frei.Haus in Vienna, as well as for the Kunstschaffen Verein. Her curatorial practice focuses on developing coherent exhibition narratives, supporting artists throughout the exhibition process, and activating exhibition spaces through interdisciplinary formats that connect visual art, performance, and sound.
