Kintsugi- The Golden Break-Off

The Golden Break-Off explored the act of release through abstraction and ritual. The exhibition featured abstract works and monotypes created from broken plates, symbolizing the letting go of moments and habits.

At the opening, artist Viveka Biondic performed a personal ritual: breaking 28 plates — one for each year of her life — while gifting the 30th plate to be shattered after her 31st birthday. Strikingly, the 28th plate resisted breaking, remaining intact.

Following this, a video performance documented the collection of fragments. From these broken pieces, a new artwork emerged: all shards painted in gold, arranged around the unbroken 28th plate. This installation, together with the video works, was presented at the exhibition’s closing, completing the cycle of rupture and transformation.
